New North Street bar and bottle shop will offer tasting events and drinks flights

A new independent bar and bottle shop has opened its doors in South Bristol. Spirited on North Street, Bedminster, will offer a range of specialised, high-quality drinks suitable to different tastes and budgets.

Spirited is the brainchild of whisky lover Katy Kennedy who has mastered her expertise working at retailers Oddbins, Averys wine merchants and Elixir Distillers. She hopes to create both a relaxed environment to enjoy food and drink with friends - and the ideal place to buy the perfect dram.

Speaking on the new opening, owner Katy said: "Bristol is a vibrant and exciting city and Bedminster is a great district of independent businesses. Spirited is all about conviviality and sharing – sharing spirits, imparting knowledge, exchanging stories, revealing experiences.

"I am looking forward to building relationships with my regular customers and giving a warm welcome to all newcomers. The spirit of a good club, but without the membership!”

The part-bar, part-shop - which has opened in a former furniture shop - will showcase some of the best distilleries and wineries from around Britain along with independent producers from further afield that you might not have seen before. Katy will also offer lots of beers and spirits from South West producers.

Katy continued: "Sharing drinking is such an integral part of life in many cultures and this is the spirit behind this special one-off new Bristol business. Part bar and part shop, personal attention helps ensure customers find what is right for them."

Comparative tasting flights - consisting of a board of three spirits - will be a speciality of Spirited, as will a regular ‘break even’ bottle for customers to sample at cost. From October, ticketed tasting events and private sessions will be hosted by brands, suppliers and producers and the bar will collaborate with local business owners to hold other events such as chocolate and rum or cheese and whisky.

Katy added: “Every spirit has a tale to tell; these are bottles with soul! I am very much looking forward to sharing their stories and introducing new discoveries to my customers.”

This week, the bar is open Wednesday to Friday but will be open from Wednesday to Sunday on the week commencing September 26.

Spirited is located at 196 North Street, Bedminster, BS3 1JF and will be open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 9pm
