New Nicole Kidman movie to commence filming at Belfast Harbour Studios in August

Hollywood movie 'The Northman' will resume production in Northern Ireland this summer and commence filming in August, as Coronavirus restrictions ease across the country.

The film, which stars a-listers such as Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgard, is a 10th century revenge drama set in Iceland.

The story centres around a Nordic Prince on a mission to avenge his father’s death.

It was reported that director, Robert Eggers, had moved to Northern Ireland to prepare for the movie.

Back in February, Belfast Live shared photos from the set of The Northman, which was being filmed along the North Coast, as well as at Belfast Harbour Studios.

The Sunday Life then revealed in March that production had been abandoned in Northern Ireland, due to Coronavirus precautions.

Despite this, Belfast Harbour have confirmed that production is returning to the studios, with filming set to comment in August, in line with safe practice guidelines.

A spokesperson for Belfast Harbour told Belfast Live:

“The film and TV production industry has been heavily impacted by the pandemic and filming has been stalled across the globe.

“We understand the studio occupier is preparing to commence filming in August using the safe practice guidelines as produced by the British Film Commission and we continue to work with them to support their safe return.

“For more than a decade Northern Ireland has been developing its reputation as a world-wide production location and we continue to work with our partners at NI Screen to grow and develop this reputation and explore new opportunities.”
