This week marks a new chapter for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia with the arrival of is chief executive, Patrick McIntyre.
Mr McIntyre was announced as the institution's new head in June, joining the archive from Sydney Theatre Company, where he was the executive director for more than 11 years.
His appointment is the result of an international search for the archive's head, and he's the first Australian to serve as the head of the archives since 2011, with previous appointees hailing from Austria and the Netherlands.
"The NFSA collection is one of the country's most exciting cultural assets, particularly as it increasingly becomes available in digital forms," he said.
"I am very much looking forward to working with the team to further enrich the collection, make sure it is preserved for future generations, and to find new ways to bring it to life and increase access."
Mr McIntyre has more than 25 years' experience in arts and cultural management, including with The Australian Ballet and Sydney Film Festival.
He has also held positions on several boards and advisory boards, including at Live Performance Australia, the CREATE Centre at the University of Sydney, ArtsReady, and the Deakin University arts management program.
Mr McIntyre's appointment came following the resignation of Jan Muller in late 2020 after more than three years in the role, in order to return to his home in the Netherlands.
