New NFF Super 16 Poll is out. Where is Ohio State?

The National Football Foundation in conjunction with the Football Writers Association has what might be the best objective college football poll going. While some of the others tend to keep teams where they thought they should be in the preseason until a loss occurs, the Super 16 Poll is not afraid to make concessions and moves when it makes sense.

Such is the case with the poll that was released after week seven. Week six went in Ohio State’s favor, but this time the Super 16 voters decided to move the Buckeyes down.

The voters of the poll have quietly and consistently continued to move Ohio State up in the rankings as it has continued to look dominant each week. The Buckeyes started out about where the AP and Amway Coaches had them, but now the Buckeyes had a week off this week and didn’t have an opportunity to make an impression.

But LSU did by beating Florida in Death Valley. Because of it, the Tigers have moved ahead of the Buckeyes and pushed them down to No. 3 in the poll.

Ohio State also lost a couple of first place votes. It now has just six first place votes instead of the eight it had after week six. Again, you can attribute that to the more of what LSU has done versus what the Buckeyes haven’t.

Another week, another shakeup. But never fear, things will begin to crystallize as the big boys continue to tussle over the next few weeks.
