New Newcastle Castore training kit revealed as date is set for home shirt launch

Newcastle supporters got their first glimpse of the club's new Castore training kit as first team players returned for day one of pre-season.

Last week saw Castore finally confirmed as the club's new kit partner, but Tuesday was the first proper look at what some of the brand's Newcastle United apparel range will look like.

Castore, who made their entry into the football market via a partnership with Glasgow Rangers last season, pitch themselves as a premium sportswear brand.

The predominantly blue training kit revealed today drew mostly positive comments from supporters who were also teased with an image of the yet-to-be-revealed home shirt on the club's official Twitter that confirmed July 10 as the launch date for the new shirt.

The Twitter post linked to a sign-up page that encouraged fans to register for first access to the new 2021/22 home kit. It's likely that Saturday will see the design of the new shirt revealed publicly and signal the beginning of an exclusive pre-ordering period for fans who have signed up via the online club shop.

It's also likely that shirts won't physically be in the hands of supporters until later in July.

Big clue? The thick black stripe down the middle of this Castore warm-up shirt tallies with the home shirt design leaked to ChronicleLive in June (Newcastle United via Getty Images)

The training wear meanwhile offered a big clue into the design of the new home shirt in the shape of a thick black stripe down the front of the short sleeved warm-up shirts. This tallies with an image shown to ChronicleLive last month by an unofficial source that was believed to be of the new home shirt and featured thicker block stripes, including one directly down the middle of the shirt.

If that image proves to be the new shirt it will see Newcastle play once more in a traditional white grandad neck collar, a design that has achieved cult status among supporters after it was worn in the mid 1990s by Kevin Keegan's Entertainers.
