New Netflix drama Criminal UK dubbed one of the best TV shows of the year

No sooner have many of us started and quite possibly finished new true crime drama Unbelievable, Netflix are ready to launch another new show on us this week.

And critics who have already seen Criminal: UK are heralding it as one of the breathtaking TV shows you'll see all year.

Unbelievable hit Netflix last week, just as details were leaked about , and will be followed this week by Criminal: UK, which is rather groundbreaking in its delivery.

In typical Netflix style, the streaming service don't give too much away in the teaser for the new drama on their website.

It reads "Within the walls of an interrogation room and with time running out, London investigators go after three suspects, each accused of a grievous crime."

Netflix describe Criminal: UK as a “stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama” which “focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects.”

What makes Criminal:UK rather different is the fact that it is part of an anthology series consisting of twelve total episodes, with three episodes each set across four countries filmed in local languages.

Criminal UK will launch on Netflix on September 20 (Handout)

Which means that as well as the UK version of Criminal, there are ones being launched in Spain, France and Germany too.

Playing the detectives in the UK episodes are Katherine Kelly, who had us all on the edges of our seats in ITV drama Cheat at the start of the year; Lee Ingleby (Innocent/Line Of Duty) and Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty).

And among the suspects being interrogated is Doctor Who and Broadchurch actor David Tennant, who plays a doctor accused of killing his stepdaughter.

*Criminal: UK will be available on Netflix from Friday, September 20.
