New National Lottery rules mean millions of Brits will win cash for matching two numbers

As the old saying goes...it could be you.

And now Lottery players will be able to win money just from matching a pair of numbers.

As the Mirror reports, new rules mean players who match two numbers in the "Must Be Won" games will land a fiver.

Those games are staged when the jackpot rolls over five times, and cash is passed to people winning lower tier prizes if no one matches all six numbers.

In the past, this cash was rolled out to people matching three numbers - seeing 128,703 lucky ticket-holders scoop £96 instead of £30 the last time it happened in July - but now it means millions will benefit.

Commercial director Neil Brocklehurst said: “We know an unexpected extra fiver — which could be spent on chocolates, a book, or coffee for a friend — can really put a smile on someone’s face.

Camelot is launching the new rules on November 7 with a special Must Be Won draw.

Around a million players match two numbers in a typical draw, picking up a free lucky dip - but no cash.

The new system will mean that as well as free entry to the next draw, there's a cash reward sometimes too.

Other changes coming from Camelot include three “Big September” draws - starting with a £20million Must Be Won on Saturday 5th.

There's also a mega EuroMillions draw guaranteeing 20 UK millionaires on Friday, September 18.

A boosted EuroMillions jackpot of over £100million will then be up for grabs the following Friday.
