New name for Stoke-on-Trent tile manufacturer after total rebrand

A tile manufacturer is marking its 10th year in business with a total rebrand – and a new name.

Surface Design Studio, based in Brindley Ford, will now be known as Digital Ceramics Custom Tiles.

Bosses at the company say the name better reflects the company’s ‘scale and ability’ and brings it in line with its parent company, Digital Ceramics Group, which is approaching its 20th anniversary this year.

The custom tile manufacturer works with clients in the leisure, entertainment and attraction industries across the globe including Disney, DreamWorks, McDonalds and Transport for London.

Mark Wood, director of Digital Ceramics Custom Tiles, said: “In 2001, Digital Ceramics was set up to sell machinery, toners and consumables to the ceramic manufacturing industry all over the world.

“In 2011, we were asked by a leading tile manufacturer to produce a large scale art project for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, which had over 16,000 individual porcelain tiles, produced with a different image to create a mural. After the success, we set up The Surface Design Studio to offer a custom printing service to artists, interior designers and architects.

“Providing bespoke tiles to leading brands around the world is an achievement that we’re immensely proud of.”

Over the past 18 months, the Outclough Road business has grown significantly and expanded its international customer base.

In March last year, BusinessLive reported how the company completed its biggest ever project for global animation firm DreamWorks.

It was asked to complete a custom swimming pool design for the lazy river at the American Dream attraction in New Jersey.

It produced more than 18,500 tiles in four weeks and spent a further month on installation.

Now the business wants to expand its services to enable it to service more exciting projects in the future.

Mark added: “This is an exciting time for the group as we’re not only reaching a milestone year but we’re able to drive the business forward at an exciting and global level, so the next decade will be an even bigger and better celebration.”

Digital Ceramics Custom Tiles is renowned for bespoke wall and floor tile projects, creative commercial leisure centre tiles, designing large format tiles for building facades and signage and custom printing and production of enamel panels.

It has completed projects for well-known brands including the London Underground, Jamie’s Italian, Nando’s, Sainsbury’s and McDonalds.
