Brooklyn-based rapper Theophilus London is a well-connected man. Since his first mixtape in 2008, he's worked with Mark Ronson, Damon Albarn, Solange Knowles, Dave Sitek and Ellie Goulding. According to his Facebook page, Kanye just sent him an email. And his forthcoming debut album, Timez Are Weird These Days (due this summer) features production from collaborators including Jokke of Swedish band Teddybears and, allegedly, MIA producer Switch.
Last Name London joins Cleopatra's Theme in the annals of songs that reference the artists performing them. It has a stripped-back opening, before creepy choral chants and machine gun-style beats create an atmospheric soundbed for London's cooly detached flow. "Last name London, first name Theophilus," seems an unnecessarily instructional lyric given how much you'll be reading about him in the coming months.
