New mum who saved Morrisons points all year to use at Christmas shop livid when hackers took all £105

A new mum who saved up Morrisons points all year to use on her Christmas shop was horrified when scammers hacked her account and spent all £105 at a shop 100 miles away.

Ashleigh Bartlett had planned to redeem her points to help her young family through the festive period after giving birth to daughter Lainey at the end of November.

But as she and partner David Bensley, from Westerhope, prepared to stock up on Christmas dinner and baby supplies, they were shocked to discover that their More Card Account was empty.

"I checked and all my points had been wiped out - and it said they'd been spent at a store in Pontefract," said Ashleigh, 33.

Now the sales manager, who is also mum to three-year-old Kobe, accused Morrisons of "washing their hands of" the problem.

The supermarket giant said their customer data has not been breached and that online hackers target people who use the same username and password across multiple sites.

But Ashleigh said: "I don't use the same password for Morrisons that I do for other any things.

"They won't do anything about it, they've basically said tough luck it’s your account that was hacked not ours."

Ashleigh and David, 41, saved their points all year to spend on the Christmas shop.

"They promote that as the best way to do it, they say that's the safest way of saving," she said.

"We save them up all year - we normally spend it on our Christmas shop but because we've got the little one, we were going to need so many nappies and stuff, so we were going to use it for that as well.

"It was just after I had my little girl at the end of November - I checked my account on that Saturday and all my points had been wiped out.

"It meant there was more of a strain on money at Christmas."

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Online hackers target people who use the same username and password across multiple sites. We regularly remind our customers about the importance of using a unique password.

"We take online security very seriously and our customer data has not been breached."

According to  Mirror Online, Morrisons said there has been a surge in loyalty card related fraud in the last few months, with fraudsters targeting people's accounts and taking their accumulated loyalty points.

An investigation by  This Is Money found the points had been spent in other parts of the country.

Morrisons isn't the only supermarket to find themselves in hot water, as Sainsbury's have also had some security issues with their Nectar card.

Some people report they had their cards blocked with no prior warning.
