New mum wary of leaving child with her mother-in-law after she 'breastfed' nephew

A new mum has reached out for support and advice on social media, after labelling her mother-in-law's behavious as frankly, "disturbing."

The anonymous mother asked for opinions after newly barring her husband's mum from all contact with her child, as reported by the Daily Record.

According to the Mirror, she decided to stop all contact after a recent "inappropriate" situation where she allegedly witnessed her spouse's mother allowing her nephew, who is two-years-old, latch onto her breast as if she was going to feed him - although she had long since stopped producing breast milk.

Posting on a Reddit 'Just No MIL' forum, the new mum, who resides in the United States, has said that the entire incident has made her "paranoid" that she may try and perform the same act on her own child.

This is the main reason why she stopped all contact in the first place.

She posted on the forum: "MIL allowed two-year-old grandson to try to nurse her.

"MIL and I's relationship has been rocky since I gave birth and MIL showed up unannounced at three days PP.

"So, we’ve been no contact since six days PP to now which is almost five months. We met up about a month ago where MIL took no responsibility/wouldn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing or even that she had spoken ill of me after my birth.

"But, we did manage to reach middle ground of at least being cordial for my husband's sake.

"So this weekend husband mentioned going by my MIL's for a little with baby so this is the first time they’ve met since she was three days old.

"We went and MIL was beyond obnoxious and even insulting (tried to rip baby out of my hands twice and at one point even cornering me while baby was asleep, told me I’m spoiling baby).

"The worst part is that I was nursing baby near her and she tells me that two weeks prior she had allowed her grandson to latch her to realize there was nothing there."

She also said: "At the time I was mostly ignoring it and the day after I realized how inappropriate it was and I’m disturbed. I don’t want to sexualize breastfeeding, but she’s not lactating!

"I feel like it reaches sexual assault.

"It has me very paranoid about my child being there so we agreed to keep visits rare, short, and supervised.

"I think it really disturbed me that she didn’t see the behaviour as inappropriate at all and thought it was a casual way in which to relate to me.

"My SIL is aware and thinks it’s a child issue it seems they are struggling to wean him, but I think she is the adult and should know better."

The new parent later updated the post to say that her mother-in-law now had zero chance of being left alone with her baby.

"I am not allowing this woman anywhere near my child unsupervised and even supervised. I’ll try to keep baby away. Just wanted to put that out there.

"I’m a first-time mom and I didn’t want anyone to think I’d be neglectful and ever allow her unsupervised access to my child."

Dozens of people have since offered their advice to the woman's post, and shared their thoughts on the situation.

One person said: "Follow your instincts, they won't steer you wrong."

Another replied: "What the fudge? That's gross. You just don't do that. I'm majorly side-eyeing MIL for her behaviour and SIL sweeping it under the rug. Strong boundaries are needed."

A third added: "If my mother, who I am very close to and love dearly, told me she let my son latch onto her to show him there was 'nothing there'... I would raise hell. That’s very weird and inappropriate in my opinion. Definitely don’t do visits unsupervised."
