New mum hoping to get health back on RTE's Operation Transformation 2022 after traumatic labour

A new mum is hoping to get her health back on track as a new Operation Transformation 2022 leader, after overcoming a traumatic birth during Covid.

Dubliner Katie Jones, 24, welcomed her first child, a son Joshua with her partner Michael during Covid, and it wasn’t easy.

The 24-year-old retail assistant living in Swords had a difficult birth which saw her having to get a blood transfusion afterwards.

She has been experiencing high blood pressure, but is hopeful the show can help her to improve her health and well-being to reduce or even get her off the blood pressure medication.

As this year’s youngest leader, Katie said she wants to be a healthy energetic mum who lives life to the full for her 18-month-old son.

Presented by Kathryn Thomas, the aim of the game of the series is to reset and kick start a new chapter and healthier habits in the leaders' lives.

Katie is the third leader to be announced, and will join Kilkenny native, John Ryan, 49,and Tipperary native Sarah O’Connor Ryan, as the new leaders who have signed up to take on a health and wellness plan.

The new leaders, alongside two others yet to be revealed, began their transformation back in November when they were fully assessed by the experts.

They also underwent the minimum fitness test with Prof Niall Moyna of DCU and his team.

All the information from this stage will assist the experts in charting the safest way for each leader to become healthier.

The new season will officially kick off on screens on Wednesday, and over the course of eight weeks the audience will see what transformation means to each leader.

All of them are looking to the experts for guidance and information that can help them to begin and sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Some are seeking work/life balance, while others want to find the energy to keep up with their kids.

Devising the health and wellness plan and guiding the new leaders are fitness coach Karl Henry, principal clinical psychologist Dr. Eddie Murphy, dietitian Aoife Hearne, and general practitioner Dr. Sumi Dunne.

This year, the show will be based in Mullagh in Co Cavan.

Each week the leaders will meet the experts here as they chart their weekly progress.

Operation Transformation returns to screens on Wednesday 5th January at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.
