New mobile testing site now available in Bathgate

A new mobile testing centre for Covid-19 set up by the army has returned this month as part of the UK Government testing programme for key workers.

The mobile testing unit will be at the Xcite Bathgate car park (Balbardie Park, Torphichen Road) to provide tests for key workers who are self-isolating due to them or household members displaying symptoms.

The testing site will be open until Tuesday (June 2).

No equipment will be left at the site at the end of each day of testing.

Test slots must be booked online through the UK Government website https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/

The testing station can be accessed by the following groups, with those in Priority Group 1 able to access testing through existing NHS testing centres.

Priority Group 1: Health and social care workers; staff working in residential institutions and essential roles where service resilience is at risk.

Priority Group 2: Essential workers in critical national infrastructure fundamental for safety and security, and life-line services.

Priority Group 3: Staff directly involved in delivering other essential services.

Priority Group 4: Staff involved in volunteering, or in nationally or locally significant industry important to economic sustainability and growth.

Tests are for the above groups and members of their households who have symptoms.

Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick, said: “Increasing the capacity for testing remains vital therefore this additional local facility at Xcite Bathgate must be welcomed. I would urge anyone who meets the criteria book themselves a test.”
