VASCO: Mormugao municipality is witnessing a power struggle among its councillors following the defeat of former Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida by BJP’s Krishna Salkar in the results declared on March 10.
On Monday, 15 out of 25 councillors led by former chairperson Deepak Naik have moved a no-confidence motion against vice-chairperson Shradha Mahale through a letter addressed to the director of municipal administration,
Mahale, a known supporter of the former legislator, has been holding charge of the post since the municipal election results were declared last year.
The group of councillors have called for convening a special meeting of the council at the earliest.
Political observers said that other committees of the municipality will most likely witness some changes in the days ahead.
