New Mexico high school considering naming stadium after Brian Urlacher

Football players at Lovington High School in New Mexico could soon play their games at Brian Urlacher Stadium.

The athletic coordinator at the linebacker’s alma matter proposed to change the name of the stadium at a school board meeting last week, according to the Associated Press.

Urlacher graduated in 1996 from Lovington, where he played wide receiver and safety. His senior season, they went undefeated on their way to a state championship. They were runners up at state the year before.

They retired his No. 11 jersey in 2001, and he made a significant equipment donation the following year. He also hosts an annual charity basketball game at the school.

The school district will still have to craft a formal proposal for the stadium name change before it can be official, but given Urlacher’s continued ties to the school, they shouldn’t have too much trouble passing it through.

A stadium would just be the latest accolade on a long list for the Hall of Fame linebacker.
