Ask any parent and they will tell you how difficult it is to keep your house tidy with toddlers around.
However, a new playgroup in Wishaw will encourage young kids to be as messy as they like when they are there.
M&J Messy Makers will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday morning in the Loyola centre on Campbell Street with the aim of developing a variety of skills through play.
Playgroup leader Lisa said: “Everything we use is all home made non toxic and safe for all ages.
“We have our opening day on August 24 with two special guest coming along. We have Cocomelon and Baby Shark dropping in to play with the children, who will also have the chance to get some pictures taken with them.
“At the moment we have space for around 15 kids but people are still asking for spaces so it’s very exciting and we can’t wait to get started.”
Messy play aims to develop early skills whether it’s building muscle strength and control-in fingers, wrists, arms and legs by squishing, squashing and squeezing by making shapes in mud, pasta and paint.
Lisa believes the lack of such a group in Wishaw is one of the reasons why there has been so much interest before the first session has even taken place.
She added: “I had been trying to get my youngest daughter into something similar but there was nothing there so I decided to start up our own.
“My seven-year-old daughter used to go to messy play and she loved it but it’s been harder to get kids into various groups because of Covid.
“We have had support from Business Gateway and the Loyola Centre have been great.
“The response on social media has been great too.”
M&J Messy Makers start on Tuesday, August 24, from 10am to 11.30am at the Loyola Centre in Wishaw. For more information visit the group’s Facebook page or email mj.messymakers@gmail.com
