New McDonald's restaurant in Long Eaton opening date confirmed

Fast-food giant McDonald's has confirmed when a new drive-thru restaurant is set to open in Long Eaton.

The restaurant is currently being built on a section of the Tesco Extra car park, at the junction of Waverley Street and Nottingham Road.

With construction work now well under way, the chain has confirmed it plans to open the new outlet in November, Derbyshire Live reports.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: "We are pleased to be progressing with the works on this restaurant and our ambition is to open in November."

Plans to build the restaurant, which is set to create up to 65 jobs, were given the go-ahead back in November 2018.

Erewash Borough Council’s planning department recommended that the development would be given the go-ahead as there was "no evidence" to suggest road safety would be compromised.

Officers also noted the loss of parking spaces would be compensated for by a new car park at the rear of the neighbouring Aldi service yard.

In a report to councillors ahead of the meeting, officers from the planning department said: "The economic benefits of the proposal must be taken into account when considering the application.

"The proposed restaurant is expected to employ 30 full-time and 35 part-time staff, adding to the social and economic offering in the area and these weigh in favour of the proposal.

"Overall, therefore, it is considered that the proposed restaurant with drive-thru facility provides an acceptable form of development in what is considered to be a suitable, sustainable location and the signage proposed is also acceptable."

A more specific opening date will be confirmed by McDonald's at a later date.
