New McDonald's at McKinstry Road Derriaghy to open at end of the month creating 120 jobs

A new McDonald's restaurant is to open at the end of the month, creating 120 new jobs.

The new 24/7 dual lane drive-thru restaurant will open on Wednesday, October 28, on McKinstry Road, Derriaghy, with the fast food giant saying that it has been adapted to accommodate social distancing  with enhanced safety features.

McDonald's says that the premises will have an emphasis on sustainability and the local environment, with new trees being planted around the site and investment in renewable energy resources, LED lighting and an upgraded recycling system.

The restaurant will have 110 seats in doors and 50 outdoors, with customers having the ability to enjoy table service and the use of the McDonald's app for contact-free ordering.

It will also have new drive-thru boards and an energy efficient kitchen, that McDonald's says will change the way the food is prepared, so products are made especially to order using locally sourced ingredients.

Speaking about the investment, franchisee John McCollum said, “McDonald’s is committed to growing its business in Northern Ireland and this major investment has created significant direct and indirect employment including a boost to the manufacturing, construction and service sectors.

“Since we started to reopen our restaurants our priority has been to ensure that our people and customers are kept safe. We have changed our operations and together with our suppliers, restaurant teams and delivery partners we have been able to continue serving the communities in which we operate.

“Throughout my time as a franchisee I have been committed to serving and supporting the local communities in which we serve and I am really looking forward to welcoming people from the local area and beyond to the new restaurant to enjoy a treat at McDonald’s.”

The restaurant at the McKinstry Road roundabout, between Belfast and Lisburn, will be the 32 McDonald's branch in Northern Ireland.
