A new mayor and deputy mayor have been elected for Neath Port Talbot. The council elects a new mayor and deputy mayor to preside over council proceedings each year. Councillor Chris Williams, of Bryncoch South, will now step in to the top role for 2023/2024 period.

He will be joined by deputy mayor Matthew Crowley, councillor for Sandfields East. Speaking after the approval was made at a full council meeting on March 15, mayor Cllr Williams said it was a great honour for him to represent the borough of Neath Port Talbot.

He said: "I look forward to carrying out the role to the best of my ability. I've lived in Neath Port Talbot all my life and am a very community focused person. I am excited to meet with members of the public now and to build a relationship with them over the next year."
