New map shows 52 Covid hotspots in Notts as infection rates spike across county

Even more areas of Nottinghamshire now have at least 400 cases per 100,000 people as cases continue to increase across much of the county.

Areas such as Wilford and Silverdale, Beeston, Wollaton and Mapperley have some of the highest infection rates, while Edwalton currently has the worst rate in the county at 935.5 cases per 100,000 people.

These areas are all marked up in purple on the Government's interactive case map, meaning infection rates are at their highest. There are 52 areas in total.

While vast swathes of the city and county have recorded rising infection rates, some rates have plummeted drastically in the past week in certain areas.

In Lenton and Dunkirk for example, while the infection rate still sits at a high number at 531.4 cases per 100,000 people, cases have dropped by 113 (a 66.1% reduction) in the past week.

The latest data comes as so-called Freedom Day is now just days away, with most restrictions set to ease from July 19 across the country.

The data below covers the seven days to July 8 (the latest available data).

Shown is an area's infection rate/ the total number of cases in the seven days to July 8/ and how case numbers have changed when compared to the previous weeks data:
