New Manipur govt likely to be formed after Holi, says N Biren Singh

GUWAHATI: Manipur’s caretaker chief minister N Biren Singh, after his meeting with BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi on Tuesday, said the new government in the state is likely to be formed after Holi, which starts on Friday.

On who would be the next chief minister, Biren said, “I don’t know. The party has appointed observers who will visit Manipur and after the formalities, the parliamentary board will announce the CM’s name.”

On Tuesday, Biren, BJP state president A Sharada Devi and legislator and one of the contenders for the CM’s post, Th Biswajit Singh, were summoned to Delhi. The trio met Nadda and are likely to meet two central observers Nirmala Sitharaman and Kiren Rijiju.

Meanwhile, a special court in Imphal for trying cases against sitting MPs and MLAs on Tuesday issued directives to issue a bailable arrest warrant against Th Biswajit and his wife on a complaint filed by one Rebeeca Sorokhaibam last December after the duo failed to appear before the court several times in the past.

Additional district and sessions judge of fast track court, Manipur West, Lethkho Kipgen, stated in his order, “It appears that the accused persons are wilfully not appearing before the court…accordingly issue bailable W/A against the accused persons returnable on 28.03.2022.”
