New Manchester United signings appear to confirm squad numbers

New Manchester United signings Marc Jurado and Alvaro Fernandez appear to have confirmed their new squad numbers before officially being announced as players at the club.

United are looking to strengthen their youth ranks this summer and are confident of soon being able to confirm the arrival of the Spanish duo.

MEN Sport understands that the pair are still waiting to be given international clearance that will allow them to be officially signed by the club, but United have no concerns that the process will soon be completed. The delay is believed to be down to a backlog at youth level due to the large amount of transfers taking place across the continent.

Both players arrived in Manchester earlier this week ahead of their moves to Old Trafford and have already been given their new training gear.

Jurado posted a photo on his Instagram story of the pair wearing their United track tops, and have seemingly revealed their squad numbers in the process. Fernandez was wearing the No.90 while Jurado the No.88.

Their high squad numbers are no surprise given neither player is expected to be anywhere near the first team next season, but academy players are required to don first-team shirt numbers in EFL Trophy matches, which both players could feature in next season.

It wasn't always the case at United that numbers on training gear corresponded with actual squad numbers, but that has practically always been the case in recent years.

The teenagers have moved into accommodation arranged by United but have not yet begun training at the club as they will be asked to quarantine for two weeks in line with government guidelines.

Right-back Jurado, 16, arrives at the club after turning down a three-year contract offer from Barcelona  and United will only have to pay a small compensation fee to sign him.

Ferandez, 17,  who plays on the opposite side of defence at left-back, joins from Real Madrid and is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year deal. Both players are initially expected to join the Under-18 side.
