Manchester United's new manager can follow the lead of Frank Lampard at Everton according to one Sky Sports pundit.
MEN Sport understands there is currently a shortlist of four men which the hierarchy at United would like to see takeover in the managerial hotseat.
Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui are all currently being considered as potential successors to interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Speaking to Offers Bet, former United midfielder Alan Smith suggested that whoever the new boss could follow Lampard's lead after he joined Everton this week.
"Frank Lampard’s interview when he took over at Everton summed it up well, and I don’t think any football club is different," he explained.
"First and foremost, you expect people to work hard for the club that they’re playing for, to give the maximum that they can give.
"And that’s the most disappointing thing at Man United at the minute, that they don’t look like a team, they don’t look like they’re playing for each other, they don’t look like they’re playing for the club – that might not be true, but that’s what people see.
"That’s what comes off in some of the performances, that the players aren’t that interested.
"I don’t think that is the case, but I think that’s how it is perceived from the outside a lot of the time."
Lampard was appointed as the Blues' new boss on transfer deadline day and in one of his first acts as manager signed Donny van de Beek on loan from United.
