New managers take over Bilborough Medical Centre after 'inadequate' inspection

New managers will takeover the running of a Nottingham medical practice from April 1 after health inspectors said it was 'inadequate' last year.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) officials raised a number of concerns about Bilborough Medical Centre, in Bracebridge Drive, in an inspection report published last August.

The centre, along with Assarts Farm Medical Centre, in Upminster Drive, Nuthall, will be managed by the Nottingham City Alliance after service commissioners looked for a new provider.

With a patient list of more than 9,000 people, the practice team will remain at the surgeries.

One change patients will notice is the arrival of a number of permanent GPs, who will have set working days at the surgeries.

Appointment availability and volume is set to increase, too.

And patients registered at the practice will continue to have access to GP+, the evening and weekend GP service in Upper Parliament Street, in Nottingham city centre.

Julia Overton, assistant practice manager at the Bilborough Medical Centre, said: “With the support of Nottingham City General Practice Alliance, Bilborough Medical Centre and Assarts Farm Medical Centre look forward to working with our patients to improve the services we offer and the health and wellbeing of our patients and their carers.

"We are excited about this opportunity to develop a secure and sustainable future for our practice and the population we serve.”

Emma Bravery, chief operating officer at Nottingham City GP Alliance, added: “We look forward to working with the team at Bilborough Medical Centre, who have proven to be a resilient and dedicated group and are all clearly committed to caring for their patients.

"Our role is to ensure that the practice gets the support and resources it needs to overcome the challenges identified by its recent CQC report, and thereby provide excellent, safe, effective and responsive care to their patients.

"We are well aware of the challenges ahead and will be engaging with the practice staff, patients and carers, NHS England, Nottingham City Clinical Commissioning Group and the CQC to achieve that end.

"Our first priority is to establish a stable leadership for the practice, including recruiting clinical and managerial leads, and increasing the number of appointments available.

"We welcome ideas and feedback from the patients who are key to the success of the practice.”

According to the CQC website, Assarts Farm Medical Centre is yet to be inspected.
