New Man City 2019/20 Puma kits break sales record

Manchester City’s new away kit has helped the Blues’ store clock up record sales for a launch day.

The Blues revealed their new PUMA home and away kits yesterday, and the shirts went on sale in the revamped store.

And while there are no figures available, City staff have reported that the sales of shirts have exceeded any first day sales in the past.

What was noticeable is that the black away shirt, which pays homage to the heritage of the Hacienda nightclub with its yellow stripes on one shoulder, has almost matched sales of the home shirt.

The store opened at 8am and, along with online sales, they exceeded any day in the past, including league title wins and the Black Friday sales.

As well as doing a brisk trade in the store, which has had a PUMA overhaul, the club has reported strong sales in the USA, China, Japan and Australia.

The graphic hoodie which Joleon Lescott wore at the launch party on Sunday night has also been a big seller.

Serena Gosling, director of retail and licensing at City Football Group said: “Yesterday was a special day for Manchester City and breaking every retail record in the club’s history was a fitting way to kick off our new partnership with Puma.

“These unique kits and product ranges were designed to celebrate the city of Manchester and we are thrilled that they have proven so popular with our fans, both in Manchester and around the world.

“It’s been fantastic to see our fans welcome this launch and new partnership with such enthusiasm and we’re looking forward to unveiling more exciting products as the season progresses.”
