New M&S hot cross buns are seriously offending shoppers

With Christmas now a distant memory, it's time to start thinking about Easter.

Shops are already full to the brim with Easter Eggs and chocolate treats, and now our favourite supermarkets are stocking up on hot cross buns.

Not wanting to miss out on the hype, M&S has joined in, and has announced a whole range of flavoured hot cross buns, which include salted caramel, Belgian chocolate and Bramley apple.

However, one of the store's flavours may be a step too far for some shoppers, and it's causing uproar on social media.

Sharing the new product on Facebook, M&S wrote: "Hello new flavour alert! These are not just hot cross buns… These are NEW Chilli and Cheese Hot Cross Buns. Visit us in store to toast the start of the Easter season."

After the post was shared, it wasn't long before comments started pouring in, and it's safe to say some shoppers were less than impressed with the offering.

"Noooo, these are just Chilli and cheese baps or brioche.

"Not Hot Cross Buns," said one disgruntled shopper.

Another said: "That’s not a hot cross bun. It’s a cheese roll. Stop it."

"Shouldn't be allowed, REAL Hot Cross Buns should not have any of these faddy flavourings," slammed somebody else.

A fourth critic vented: "No no no! So very wrong!"

The buns do have some fans, though, with some people commenting that they can't wait to try them. Savoury fans, unite!
