Opening up the weekly UK singles chart to any track that's ever been released is... just plain wrong.
I can see why they're doing it - what with digital downloads having overtaken sales of CD and vinyl singles.
But it won't be a singles chart anymore, will it? You know - new stuff, hip tunes the kids are listening to.
It'll be an anything goes chart. Irritating novelty songs. Whatever old standard has been dusted down for a new advertising campaign that's breaking that week. Some obscure Genesis track from a re-released album. The mind boggles. It's the thin end of the wedge. A recipe for musical anarchy, no less.
Supper's Ready for number one, anyone?
