Tokyo Metro's Ginza Line Shibuya Station, currently under construction above Meiji-dori avenue, will open on Jan. 3 with a new-look design that incorporates an M-shaped roof.
Subway services to the new station will begin with the day's first train after about six days of suspension, the Tokyo Metro Co. said Monday.
Currently, a large-scale redevelopment project is under way in the Shibuya district. The Ginza Line's new station will be relocated about 130 meters east of the current site, which is located on the third floor of the building that houses Tokyu Department Store's Toyoko Store. The station will feature a roof constructed with 45 M-shaped arches, and the platform will be extended from six meters to 12 in width.

Following the opening, passages will be built above the station's roof that lead to Shibuya Scramble Square, which is scheduled to open on Friday, other commercial facilities and JR Shibuya Station.
Due to the extensive work required to relocate platforms and switch tracks, Ginza Line services will be suspended between Shibuya and Omotesando stations as well as between Aoyama-Itchome and Tameikesanno stations from the first train on Dec. 28 to the last train on Jan. 2.
