New Liverpool signing unveils Reds tattoo after WSL transfer confirmed

Liverpool Women have announced the signing of Canadian goalkeeper Rylee Foster - and she's already got a strong connection to Merseyside.

Foster sports a 'You'll Never Walk Alone' tattoo on her left arm which she revealed is a tribute to her grandparents.

"I got the tattoo in 2014 after my grandmother passed away," she explained.

"My grandparents are both from Wavertree in Liverpool but moved away during the war.

"It's just a commemorative thing to show that they are always with me."

The 21-year-old joins the Reds from West Virginia University where she completed a four-year spell.

The Canadian was named on the MAC Hermann Trophy long list for the most outstanding college player of the year in two successive seasons and kept an impressive 39 clearn sheets in 84 games.

Liverpool manager Vicky Jepson said she was pleased to have Foster on board as the Reds look to kick on from their first league win last Sunday.

"Rylee is a good signing for us. It's about signing a good quality goalkeeper that brings competition to our current squad. She's a fantastic fit for us for the future.

"We're glad to have such a young, talented individual join our squad that will add strength. She's settled in well and we're looking forward to seeing what she's capable of."

Foster admitted it was a dream come true to sign for the club she has supported since she was a child.

"It's been a dream for me to play for Liverpool since I was a young kid," said the goalkeeper.

"To be able to start my professional career and be in Liverpool - this was the ultimate goal for me so to be ale to start here is amazing.

"I'm going to come in, work hard and do everything I can to help out."

Foster comes in a week after Fran Kitching suffered a horrific facial injury in training .

Foster will compete with Anke Preuss for the No.1 shirt for the remainder of the campaign.
