New Liverpool restaurants and bars to try if you haven't already in 2019

So much can change in a matter of months in Liverpool, especially with the food and drink scene.

From the boom of the Baltic Triangle to the rejuvenation of Clayton Square, the city really is ever-changing.

With so many new openings in the city it’s hard to keep track, so we have rounded up just some of the shiny new restaurants and bars to try, if you haven’t already.

Here’s our list of new openings in Liverpool city centre, and some that are still to come:

Rosa’s Thai Cafe

Launched by Saiphin Moore and her husband Alex in London’s iconic Brick Lane in 2008, the Thai restaurant has taken London by storm.

It now has various venues in the most renowned areas of the the capital, and when Saiphin decided to expand the brand, she knew Liverpool would be the best place to start.

Rosa’s Thai Cafe is known for its flavoursome Thai food inspired by Saiphin’s family recipes, utilising the best in authentic Thai ingredients alongside locally-sourced British produce.

The Albert Dock restaurant can expect dishes such as salmon red curry, stir-fried aubergine with chilli and basil, and Rosa’s famous Pad Thai signature.

Champagne and Fromage

Another venue branching into Liverpool from London is Champagne + Fromage.

The restaurant, which many will know from its time in Grand Central Food Bazaar, is one of the company’s first branches outside of London.

The bistro specialises in artisan French farmhouse cheeses, charcuterie and smaller grower champagne.

Champagne + Fromage will be serving favourites such as sharing boards, baked Camembert and fondue, afternoon tea, tartines and macaroons, with a selection of champagne to compliment each.

Coucou Canard

Coucou Canard has also made the move from Grand Central Food Bazaar.

The restaurant already has a reputation for tasty breakfasts and is looking to continue on its mission to focus on simple foods.

The new restaurant is French-inspired, utilising simple recipes and using seasonal and locally sourced produce.

Open from 8am daily for its popular breakfasts, Coucou Canard is set to serve French bistro-style sharing dishes created by Head Chef Dawid Glinkowski.

Liverpool's The Vincent Cafe and Cocktail Bar to close 

Black Barrel Rum Bar

Black Barrel has opened in the former Izakaya in March, 2019.

The team at Black Barrel, which is named after the method of aging rums in a charred barrel to intensify the taste, said that the bar is perfect for customers who want to try new rums.

There will also be a food menu that features Caribbean and Latin American food.

Head Chef, Bryony Stratton from Holywell, Wales and Mexican chef, Luis Michel, has created a menu of small plates menu that includes vegan options.

Bongo’s Bungalow

The team behind internationally renowned Bongo’s Bingo have opened their first permanent bar in Cains Brewery at the Baltic Triangle.

The bar, which has opened in the former Old Gas Station at Cains Brewery Village, features a kitchen, living room and dining room, for the ultimate ‘house party’ experience.

A spokesperson for Bongo’s Bungalow said: "The extensive face-lift has re-shaped the flow of the cosy watering hole, and added more seating and space.

"There’s plenty of attention to detail as one would expect, from a proper DJ booth to Chesterfield sofas, kitsch wallpaper and an actual fireplace – as you do."

Bongo’s Bungalow is  open every Thursday to Sunday.

Junkyard Golf Club and Bar

Junkyard Golf Club opened its doors in Liverpool ONE in the former Jungle Rumble, late in March.

The crazy golf experience already has venues across the country, including popular branches in Manchester, Leeds and Oxford.

While the golf is at the forefront, Junkyard in Liverpool also has four bars dotted around the course, so that guests can drink while they play.

Drinks in the bar will include Ribena Turner, Hotline Ting and Porn in the USA, all pimped out with tuck-shop treats.

The bars will be open to everyone, whether they’re playing golf or not.

Junkyard Golf Club Liverpool is open 7 days a week, 12pm to 12am Monday to Wednesday, 12pm to 12am Thursday, 12pm to 1am Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 10pm Sunday.

Harrison’s Sports Bar

Liverpool city centre welcomed a brand new bar as Harrison’s Bar and Kitchen opened just weeks ago.

The sports bar has opened on the corner of North John Street and Victoria Street, in the former Beaconsfield pub.

The bar will now serve meals and screen live sports seven days a week and there will also be live music every weekend.

Visitors to Harrison’s will also find the artwork of the Liver Birds and a piece inspired by the cover of The Beatles Abbey Road album.

Harrison’s is open from 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to 1am Friday and Saturday.

Chip’d

A ‘sophisticated and unique chippy’ concept has opened in Liverpool, just in time for the sunny weather.

Chip’d, a Dutch-inspired artisan chip shop, is launching its year long residency in the waterfront Dockside Dining Club at Mann Island.

The news comes after the street food concept opened its first permanent venue on Northgate Street on Chester.

To celebrate the opening, the first 50 guests to visit this weekend will receive a free cone of the Dutch-inspired ‘twice-fried’ chips.

Jaloux

Liverpool city centre welcomed a brand new nightclub in 2019 as Jaloux opened on Victoria Street.

Just weeks after Graffiti closed following six years in business , the team behind the popular club have opened the brand new concept.

General manager Andy Laird told the ECHO that it was time for something new.

He said: “Initially we were just going to do a refurb but when we realised how big a change it would be we decided to rebrand.

“The look is completely different, we have a full flower ceiling, brand new lighting, floor, everything has changed.

“Jaloux is very picturesque, there are a lot of  Instagram opportunities for guest with the colourful and eye catching interior.”

Jaloux is currently open Friday and Saturday from 9pm until late, table packages for larger groups are available.

Roxy’s Ballroom

Bar and games firm Roxy Ball Room will open in Rainford Square on Friday, April 19.

The new venue, which was previously home to the BHS café in the Cavern Quarter, will take up two floors and the bridge over Harrington Street that once linked the cafe to the rest of BHS.

Roxy Ball Room Rainford Square will be serving up a range of dishes, including freshly made pizzas, burgers and loaded fries.

Maray

One of Liverpool’s most popular restaurants and cocktail bars, Maray, is set to open its third site this summer at the iconic Royal Albert Dock Liverpool.

The company’s expansion follows the success of its existing Middle Eastern-inspired restaurants, on Bold Street, Liverpool city centre and Allerton Road in the south of the city.

The new Maray will join an exciting food and drink line-up currently taking shape at the Royal Albert Dock, which has seen a number of independent operators open over the past year.

Liverpool-born chef Ellis Barrie, who is known for his appearances on BBC Two’s Great British Menu, has announced plans to open his first restaurant in his home city.

Ellis has earned a growing reputation for excellence since opening Anglesey restaurant Marram Grass alongside his older brother Liam.

Now the brothers are returning to their home city.
