New Liverpool kit date agreed with Nike deal delayed due to New Balance agreement

Liverpool have confirmed that the start of their kit deal with Nike has been delayed until August 1 after an extension was agreed with current suppliers New Balance.

The Reds’ seven-year association with the Boston-based sportswear company was supposed to end on May 31 - a date that would originally have fallen after the end of the Premier League season.

However, a hiatus necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic means the campaign now won’t be finished until late July.

Consequently, club chiefs have struck a deal for New Balance to continue supplying kit for a further two months.

It is after that point that a lucrative new contract with Nike will begin and next season’s shirts will be revealed to supporters.

Liverpool were forced to go to court late last year in order to defend their right to strike a deal with the American giants.

New Balance argued that they had first refusal on an extension to their agreement with the Reds and that their latest offer exceeded the value of Nike’s.

However, the case was subsequently dismissed, allowing the Premier League leaders to strike a deal worth a base figure of £30m a year with a significant royalties element.
