New Liverpool app pairs you with people who like the same music

A new initiative, GigMate, matches people up to go to gigs together based on their music tastes and interests.

It pairs you up with other solo gig-goers in your area, and leaves the rest up to you. You can choose if you want to go solo or meet up with a like-minded music lover to attend together.

The app is not a dating site, but instead hopes to help people make new friends and tackle loneliness. It covers all music styles, so whether you're a heavy-metal headbanger or a smooth jazz fan, everyone is welcome.

GigMate's research has shown that 70% of people said they had missed out on going to a gig because they didn't have anyone to go with. GigMate aims to be the solution to that problem, as well as supporting local venues by generating ticket sales they wouldn't otherwise have had.

Founder Rob March said: "I've been lucky enough to work in live events for the past years, and obviously that's an area that's had huge issues from lockdown. It made me realise how lucky we are to have live events, and also that there's a lot of people that don't get the chance to go to live events.

"They haven't got that network or friendship group. The idea for GIGMATE came from obviously my experience in the industry, and a passion for mental health issues so looking at the loneliness endemic that we're going through at the moment, and put all of those into an idea.

"Music is such a passion, it cuts through everything, and live music is such a passionate event and can really bring people together. It could just be people who want to go to a gig and their friendship group isn't into that band, but it cuts through that."

GigMate is set to launch in Liverpool early in the New Year.
