A brand new outdoor swimming pool is part of major plans to revitalise a Wirral town.
Wirral Council is drawing up its regeneration agenda for New Brighton over the next 15 years, with the exciting prospect of a new lido for the seaside resort.
New Brighton did have an open-air swimming pool from June 13, 1934, when it was opened by Viscount Leverhulme, until 1990 when it was damaged beyond repair by a storm.
Having a new lido could be a huge step forward for New Brighton’s hopes of improving its offering during the 2020s and beyond.
Wirral Council said the company Our Lido Ltd wants to develop a new lido combined with health, wellbeing and community facilities which could be located in New Brighton.
The authority has now commissioned a team who will consult with local people on what they want for their town over the next 15 years.
You can register your views here until 1pm on Monday, November 16.
Cllr Anita Leech, chair of the council’s economy and regeneration committee, said: “Even before the development of Marine Point and the rebuilding of the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton was a hugely popular place to visit with beautiful beaches and seaside attractions.
“Now we are looking ahead to the next 15 years and what the future holds for the town. We want to hear from you on what you would like to see change or be developed.
“This is your chance to tell us what you think of New Brighton. What you like, what you don’t like about the seaside resort and what you think will help make it an even better place to live, work and visit.”

Once the consultation is complete, draft options to revitalise the town will be presented to the public for comment early next year.
Wirral Council said its aim is to have the final ‘masterplan’ completed in spring 2021.
