A new Lidl store is set to open in Newport next month, the German supermarket giant has confirmed.
The new supermarket, located on Cardiff Road, will open to shoppers on the morning of April 8. It will replace the current Lidl at Mendalgief Retail Park, Docks Way, which will close on April 7.
Lidl has stated the store will create around 15 new roles, and that all existing roles at the Mendalgief Retail Park store will be kept on.
“We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing our new store to Newport," said Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Hebblethwaite.
"It is great for us to be able to deliver an improved shopping experience and even more of our high quality and affordable produce to the local area. We are extremely proud to serve the community at this time.”
The new store is part of a £1.3 billion expansion from Lidl across Britain in 2021 and 2022.
Opening times for the new store will be between 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sunday, and it will feature an in-store bakery, customer toilet and ample parking for cars and bicycles.
Discussing safety measures at the new store, a statement from Lidl GB said: "Lidl is operating a range of social distancing measures to help maintain a safe environment for both colleagues and customers.
"Clear communication, including floor markings continue to be implemented across stores, reminding customers of the importance of maintaining a two metre distance.
"Other measures that continue to be in place include dedicated cleaning stations at entrances, hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray and wipes for customers to use on their trolleys and baskets, protective screens at checkouts, as well as visors and face coverings are available for colleagues to wear.
"In addition, customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment where possible."
