New Lidl store takes shape near North Tyneside General Hospital in North Shields

Work is well under way on a new Lidl store in North Tyneside.

The supermarket is being built near North Tyneside General Hospital on Rake Lane, in North Shields, and is scheduled to open in the autumn.

Plans for the store were given planning permission last year and construction started on the site a few months ago.

Once open, the supermarket is expected to create around 40 jobs.

The site will have more than 100 car parking spaces as well as cycle parking stands.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: "We can confirm that construction of our new Lidl store in North Shields is well under way and is expected to open early this autumn."

Meanwhile, the company has put together proposals to build a new branch at the corner of New York Road and Park Lane, in Shiremoor.

Under the scheme, the site would have a 1,414 sq m sales area and around 118 car parking spaces. The plans have been submitted to North Tyneside Council.
