New Lidl store at Longwell Green to open this summer

A brand new Lidl store in Longwell Green is starting to take shape with it on track to open in early summer.

South Gloucestershire Council granted permission last year for Lidl to build a new store in Aldermoor Way at the former Homebase site.

The site is close to a number of other retail units including B&Q, Currys PC World, Costa Coffee and Marks and Spencer.

A spokesperson for Lidl UK said that following the start of construction in December the firm is on track to open in early summer. He said exact opening dates would be announced closer to the time.

The Longwell Green store will be the fourth Lid in the nearby area - with one less than a mile down the road in Hanham High Street. There are also stores close by in Kingswood and Brislington.

According to the firm it will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 760, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which will see it open more than 50 new stores a year.

The new store will include a bakery and toilet facilities - as well as the much adored middle aisle surprises.

The supermarket giant has also said the store would create up to 40 new jobs for the local economy.
