New LGBTQ+ club night with drag acts, comedians and live music coming to Nottingham

A new LGBTQ+ club night is set to launch in Nottingham this September.

Rough Trade will be the venue for Gladrags, starting on Saturday, September 4, with some of the region’s best drag talent, comedy and live music plus competitions with prizes to be won.

The event in Broad Street, Hockley, will be hosted by Nottingham queens Nana Arthole and Marilyn Sane and will feature performances from Drag King and Boylesque performer Romeo de la Cruz and Nottingham's art-queen Marika the Alien.

DJ Boz will be joined by Baby Tap to bring a mix of classics, hedonistic rave, alternative anthems and floor-filling pop.

The night also promises sing-along sessions and beats to make your body bounce.

Marilyn Sane said: "We cannot wait to bring Gladrags to Nottingham’s night scene. After such a tough 18 months we hope this new monthly club night will allow guests to laugh and dance the night away to an evening of LGBTQ+ entertainment.

“The pandemic has not only impacted mainstream venues and nightlife across the region - it has made the choice of already limited, local, safe LGBTQ+ spaces even smaller.

"We hope events such as Gladrags can help to revitalise this as normality returns over the coming months.

“With the growth of drag in mainstream media being such an explosion in recent times we’re hoping to be able to offer a space where people can really be free to try new things and most of all be themselves. It’s so important that LGBTQ+ people have spaces to be creative and inspired and that’s really what we’re hoping to create with Gladrags.”

There is no dress code but organisers have suggested “fun, fashion, alternative, glittery, trashy, glamorous, ‘parole hearing’... whatever you like!” with prizes for the best outfit.

The event is for 18+ only and tickets are now available for £9 via the Gladrags Facebook page at Facebook.com/GladragsNotts/

Gladrags will also be holding a Notts Pride after party, on September 11, at new Nottingham nightclub Popworld.
