New Leicestershire accountancy recruit aims to help start-ups thrive

Home grown Leicestershire accountant, Daniel Bennett, has been recruited by chartered accountants and business advisers Duncan & Toplis to "connect businesses and help start-ups grow and thrive".

Daniel joins the company as senior manager at the Melton office from an accountancy firm in Derby where he was business services manager.

Unlike other managers at the company, Daniel has been set the challenge of finding his own clients giving him a blank slate on which to build.

He said: "Duncan & Toplis noticed that I’m not exactly your typical suit-and-tie accountant, so they’ve practically given me free rein to support the business community as much as I can. I really want to get stuck in and help businesses, particularly startups, to grow and thrive.

"This is an exciting opportunity. I was raised in Melton and I live in Asfordby with my wife and children so I know the area well and I’m personally invested in it.

"The Melton area has a lot of ambitious new businesses but it doesn't yet have the networking scene that larger towns and cities have.

"I want to help businesses overcome that by getting involved with the local business community and helping companies that are just setting out on their journey to prosper and scale-up."

Established in 1925, the firm has 11 offices across the East Midlands and employs around 450 people.

It opened its office in Melton in 1987.

This year, the company was named large accountancy firm of the year 2019 by the ICAEW East Midlands.

Nicholas Smith, director and head of tax, said: "Daniel is a very talented accountant with a broad skill set which means he’s ideally placed to help businesses at all levels.

"New and small businesses in particular could benefit from Daniel’s knowledge, advice and accountancy skills.

"He’s very enthusiastic and approachable and he makes a great addition to our team.

"I’m looking forward to seeing the difference that Daniel can make in our area alongside the continuing support we give to all of our existing clients."
