New Leeds Rhinos signing King Vuniyayawa lands ahead of Headingley arrival

New Leeds Rhinos signing King Vuniyayawa has arrived in the UK as he prepares to link up with the club.

The Rhinos showed off their new recruit after meeting him at the airport following his arrival on Wednesday morning.

The Fiji international is one of two major off-season signings for the Challenge Cup winners, with the 25-year-old following Kiwi Zane Tetevano to Headingley for the upcoming campaign.

Vuniyayawa isn't the most high profile signing Leeds have ever made, but there is a quiet confidence that he will prove an astute signing.

He arrives relatively unknown with just five NRL appearances to his name, all of which were made last year for the New Zealand Warriors.

He has spent the majority of his career in reserve grade and comes to Super League pursuing more regular first-team action.

Despite his minimal first-grade experience, Vuniyayawa is a Fiji international and has aspirations of being selected for the World Cup later this year.

At the time of his signing, head coach Richard Agar said: “I am looking forward to having King in our group. He has had to work to get to where he is in the game and his determination is something that appealed to us.

“At his age and position, we think he is a player with plenty of potential in him. He carries the ball hard, has some real sting in his defence, and has good athleticism for a big guy. One a one-year deal, with a World Cup at the end of the year, and having spoken with King, we know we are getting a highly motivated player.”
