New Lanarkshire charity shop in appeal for donations ahead of opening

Donations of goods are being sought for the launch of a new charity shop in Rutherglen.

Sense Scotland’s new store will open its doors on Rutherglen Main Street on Monday, April 26.

Toys, bric-a-brac, clothes, jewellery, books and other items are wanted to fill up the shelves and raise income for the charity, which works closely with disabled children and adults.

The shop, at 234 Main Street, will also operate a free pick-up service for large furniture items. Donations can be made from opening day onwards.

Anne MacDonald, Sense Scotland’s West area manager, revealed items aren’t the only thing the charity is seeking.

She said: “We’re also recruiting for volunteers to help ensure the shop is tidy and attractive, sort and replace stock and deal with customers. If this sounds like something you might be interested in then get in touch.

She added: “I’m delighted that Sense Scotland will have a High Street presence in Rutherglen.

"I’m local to this area and know that people will be generous and supportive of our work. If anyone has donations for us please start to look them out – we’ll be able to accept items when the doors open.

"All sales raise much needed income to support disabled children and adults.”

Volunteer skills learned are valuable for personal development as well as very relevant to careers in retail, advertising and business. Volunteers also have the opportunity to meet lots of people, play an active role in the community and make friends.

By choosing to buy from or donate to the shop people can help keep valuable products and materials in use for longer – saving money, supporting local communities, and protecting the environment in the process.
