Early interest for a unique property expected to lift the watermark on Lake Macquarie is believed to have included an famous sportsperson.

The $4.25 million sale of the waterfront home of former Newcastle lord mayor Jeff McCloy at 148 Ross Street in Belmont in January broke the $4 million mark for the lake.

But now Mitchell Thomas and Chris Smith, of McGrath Toukley, are marketing a luxurious six-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion positioned on 6.75 acres of waterfront land at 7 Foreshore Street in Eraring that they believed will eclipse that record.

The Eraring estate, known as Mandalay, is located on the peninsula with 481 metres of waterfront reserve boundary. The property is owned by Newcastle businessman Graeme Thomas and is on the market for just the second time.

Built over three levels, the trophy residence has 1451 square metres of internal floor space and features a grand master suite, self-contained guest quarters, billiards room, office, wine cellar, sauna, multiple living spaces and garaging for 13 cars. It is set for auction on August 8 and interest has also included using the property as a wedding venue.
