New KFC video game console that keeps chicken warm slammed by health campaigners

Health campaigners have blasted a KFC video games console that keeps fried chicken warm.

They fear the KFConsole will encourage young gamers to binge on junk food and be even less physically active.

The device, due on sale later this year, uses heat generated by its components to keep food warm in a special chamber.

But Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, said: “Children whose minds are focused on this kind of gaming mindlessly graze on snacks and other treats within reach. This console will do nothing to discourage the habit.”

It comes in the same week Government food tsar Henry Dimbleby called for changes in our diet to tackle obesity and a tax on salty and sugary foods to improve public health.

KFC meals can have high levels of calories, saturated fat and salt.

Paul Evans, of the British Obesity Society and School Health UK, said: “With obesity levels at an all-time high and children living even more sedentary lifestyles, the last thing Britain needs is an ‘obesity enabling’ console.”

KFC said: “We encourage KFC fans to enjoy our food as part of a balanced lifestyle and we give nutritional information to help them make an informed choice about what they eat.”

When the KFConsole was unveiled on Twitter last year, some gamers thought it was a hoax.
