New KFC for Nottingham moves a step closer in 'chicken street'

Another chicken takeaway is hatching on the Nottingham street that has become home to takeaways and diners selling nuggets, burgers, strips and wings galore - and this time it's one of the giants.

The signs for a new KFC have gone up in Long Row - taking the number of outlets with chicken on the menu to nine.

The fast-food chain, who recently ditched the 'finger lickin' part of its slogan because it's not hygienic in these coronavirus times, will be opening a restaurant and takeaway in part of the former Habitat store.

The stretch from Upper Parliament Street to Old Market Square, encompassing Chapel Bar, Long Row and Angel Row, is a hotspot for chicken lovers looking for a fix, be it fried, grilled or pulled.

There are burgers and nuggets at McDonald's, Mexican-style tacos and burritos at Taco Bell and chicken all ways at Mega Munch.

Nando's, Pepe's Piri Piri and Roosters have everything from a whole chicken, legs and wings to burgers, wraps and pittas with a peri peri twist.

Wings, strips, kebabs, Caesar salad and pizza all with chicken? That would be Kani Kebab then.

Maryland Chicken closed but it has been replaced by Ohannes - which boasts four different chicken burgers on the menu.

Plans for the new KFC, with 50 seats inside and 12 outside were approved by Nottingham City Council in January.

Twenty jobs are in the pipeline and the restaurant is expected to stay open until 4am.

An opening date has yet to be announced.
