The library of a new multicultural facility built by publisher Kadokawa Corp. in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, was unveiled to the press on Wednesday.
Kadokawa Culture Museum will house some 30,000 books set on 8-meter-tall bookshelves that are so high a scissor lift is being used to place texts on them. The facility, parts of which opened in August, will be open in its entirety from Nov. 6.
The library is called the "Bookshelf theater." Bookshelves occupy the walls of four sides of the atrium connecting the fourth and fifth floors of the museum. Among the books are the collections of five prominent people, including Genyoshi Kadokawa, the founder of the publishing house, and historian Rizo Takeuchi, who was a close friend of Kadokawa when he established the company.
Work to fill the shelves started on Sept. 20 and is still underway, with about 60% of the job completed by Wednesday, the company said.
"We'll continue to place books on the shelves until right before the opening," a company representative said.
