New jobs to be created by £70 million investment in Budweiser brewery

The creation of new jobs and an investment of more than £70 million has been announced for a brewery site this week.

Brewing giant Budweiser, part of AB InBev, announced it would be creating 32 jobs as part of a £72 million investment in its Magor site on Thursday.

Originally opened in 1979, Magor is AB InBev’s largest brewery in the UK and makes some of the world’s top-selling beers including Budweiser and Stella Artois.

“When the brewery grows, south Wales grows with it," said Lloyd Manship, brewery manager in Magor.

"After the hardship of the last 12 months, it’s great to be able to share positive news and create new opportunities to support our community and local partners.”

The investment will include a new bottling line and fermenting units, increasing the site's brewing capacity by 1.6 million hectoletres (hl).

The investment also aims to improve energy savings at the site.

According to Budweiser, Magor already receives 20% of its electricity from wind turbines, and it claims the new investment will allow for the installation of newer, more energy-efficient coolers, leading to a proposed saving of 40 million megajoules (mg) a year.

The investment in the Magor site is part of a wider £115 million investment, which also includes another of Budweiser's UK brewery sites in Lancashire.

The last time Budweiser significantly expanded its workforce at the Magor site was back in 2015, when over 50 jobs were created.
