New jobs in the pipeline as improvements planned for Shell garage in Sherwood Rise

New jobs are expected to be created with a city petrol station in line for redevelopment.

A new sales building is planned for the Shell garage, in Sherwood Rise, with its jet wash facilities set to be removed.

The enlarged sales area is designed to "create an improved shopping environment and better facilities for customers", according to plans submitted to Nottingham City Council.

"The jet wash bay and its associated equipment are to be removed, enabling the shop to be located to the south-eastern boundary with the provision of five car parking bays, including once accessible space adjacent to the store entrance."

The replacement sales building is expected to include washroom, changing and disabled facilities as well as storage space.

On the employment front, the plans add: "The proposal will provide a valuable source of jobs, creating further job opportunities on site.

"Many of these jobs will be suitable for local residents, particularly residents who wish to be flexible in the hours they work.

"In addition to the actual jobs created by the development, further jobs will be created in the construction phase of the development.

"There will be other spin off linkages to the benefit of the local area during the construction period itself as, for example, on site construction staff utilise shops and services within the local area during the period of construction."

It is unclear how many jobs are likely to be created - but the prospect has been supported by senior business leaders.

Scott Knowles, chief executive of the East Midlands Chamber, said: “Any investment and development which puts commercial land to better use and helps to create jobs, particularly in the current climate, is welcome.”

The plans, due to be considered by the authority in due course, clarify the site used to have a car wash to the east of the forecourt.

But this was removed some time ago.

Nottinghamshire Live contacted Shell for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

The planning agent was listed as JMS Planning & Development Ltd.
