New January date set for All-Ireland club finals

The All-Ireland club finals have been moved from March to January.

The GAA Ard Chomhairle today revealed that the 2020 finals will take place on Sunday January 19.

It is a move the they say "is part of an overall commitment to condense the fixture calendar, create opportunities for club activity and would also allow counties in the Allianz Leagues to access players who were previously unavailable because they were playing in All-Ireland senior club semi-finals and finals."

The traditional date for the finals was on March 17 on St Patrick's Day.

But its new slot will come two weeks after the hurling and football semi-finals on the weekend of January 4/5.

Galway side Corofin are the reigning club football champions after claiming their fourth title last March by beating Kerry's Dr Crokes.
