The Airbus A350 -- the aircraft maker's latest model -- arrived at Haneda Airport on Friday morning ahead of its introduction into the Japan Airlines fleet. The aircraft flew in from Toulouse, France, where the European firm operates a plant.
JAL plans to replace its mainstay Boeing 777 jets with the A350, and will become the first Japanese airliner to introduce the aircraft. Service of the A350 is expected to begin in September for flights between Haneda and Fukuoka.
JAL plans to introduce 31 of the aircraft. The A350 boasts 25 percent better fuel efficiency compared to previous models due its use of lightweight materials and new engines. The engines are also quieter than those of previous models.
