New Irish chaser gives update on when he'll appear on beloved gameshow The Chase

With COVID restrictions causing havoc on the production of new TV shows, stations have been relying on reruns and old episodes of shows to meet the demands of a captive audience at home during the lockdown.

However, as restrictions started to ease over the summer, production for The Chase restarted with social distancing measures in place but Irish fans are eager to see one new face.

In April, Irish scientist Darragh Ennis was unveiled as the new chaser on the beloved ITV gameshow.

A former student at NUI Maynooth, Ennis will be regularly seen our screens as he pits his wits against a team of four contestants that are all vying for big money.

In doing so, Ennis becomes the sixth chaser to appear on the show, which is hosted by comedian, singer and actor Bradley Walsh.

The Irishman previously appeared as a contestant in 2017 when he banked a very impressive £9000 for his team.

However, fans of the show are curious when Ennis will make his bow and when asked if the episodes featuring him will still air as planned or have they been delayed with the lockdown,  Ennis was coy.

He simply replied with a famous quote from Top Gun: "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you."

Since being confirmed as the newest chaser, Ennis has also clarified some details about his involvement with the show.

"I am not telling you when my first appearance is. Keep watching the show and you'll find out. I'm not allowed to reveal my nickname or my outfit. No one is leaving, I'm not replacing a Chaser," he previously announced on Twitter.

Elsewhere, the US version of The Chase has been given a season order by ABC.

Their edition features the stars of Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time - James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter - as the chasers and it has received a nine-episode order from the Disney-owned network.

Sara Haines, from ABC’s The View, will host the series.

The show was previously adapted by Game Show Network (GSN) in 2013 with Mark Labbett, one of the British chasers featured.
