New installation to bring Northern Lights to the Tower of London this weekend

Those who don’t fancy forking out on a plane ticket to Iceland or Norway to see the Northern Lights can enjoy a unique version in London this weekend — and it won't cost a penny.

Activist and immersive artist Dan Acher is bringing his version of the Northern Lights to the Tower of London with his Borealis installation. The name of the installation refers to the Aurora Borealis, which can be found in the northern hemisphere, while the Aurora Australis is in the south.

Running on Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6 from 8pm to 10.30pm, the free ariel art will boast high-powered laser beams that will travel through particle clouds to form an uncanny resemblance to the famous spectacle. The changing UK weather creates variations in movement, colour and density, which means a unique aurora will form each time.

It’s worth noting that the front of the Tower of London ticket booth is considered to be the best spot for a glorious view — so getting there early is a good idea to secure those Insta-worthy snaps.

The artwork is landing in London following visits to Australia, Japan and Switzerland.

Acher’s sky show debuted on Thursday night, with a number of celebrities making an appearance, including Made In Chelsea star Oliver Proudlock, Victoria Clay from Britain’s Next Top Model and DJ and model Vogue Williams.
